Our sustainability commitment
Making the world a better home
For all of us at Isover UK, sustainability is at the core of our mission to make the world a better home, and as part of Saint-Gobain, we have a commitment to reach net-zero carbon by 2050. So, whether it’s our mineral wool insulation solutions, our actions, or the ways in which we’re supporting our customers in their own sustainability ambitions, we’re always conscious of driving down our environmental impact – and creating positive change across the UK and beyond.
Our Isover glass wool products manufactured in the UK contain recycled glass. This is a combination of 52% externally sourced recycled glass and 30% internally sourced glass cullet. And at our Runcorn facility in Cheshire, we’re continuing to deliver on our environmental commitments. All electric equipment in the plant is powered by 100% renewable electricity.
At the heart of our commitment is our roadmap to net-zero, and you can explore this further here. We’re also actively reducing waste throughout our value chain, partnering with The Pallet LOOP to help foster greater circularity in insulation.
Journey to 2050 : Our roadmap to net zero
Working alongside our partner brand British Gypsum, we’re committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with detailed plans developed to keep us on course. A key part of this involves tangible, measurable milestones – with our targets for 2030 set (vs 2017):
- Water: -50% potable water use within our processes.
- CO2: -33% in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and 16% reduction in Scope 3 emissions.
- Circularity: -80% production waste to landfill; +30% virgin raw materials avoided; 100% recyclable packaging; and 30% recycled or bio-based content.
- Transparency: 100% EPDs for all product ranges.
Achieving these targets will not only drive down our environmental impact in the near term – they will keep us on track to deliver on our 2050 commitment.
The Pallet LOOP: Closing the loop, together
At Isover UK, we’re the nation’s first insulation manufacturer to partner with The Pallet LOOP: a scheme to responsibly reuse timber pallets in order to cut waste across UK construction.
Now, our mineral wool insulation solutions are delivered on The Pallet LOOP’s green-coloured pallets. When they’ve been used, you simply book a collection in as little time as 72 hours, and they’ll do the rest. Not only does this reduce waste and contribute to the circular economy, but there’s also a financial benefit, with a payback for every pallet you put back into the LOOP.
